Shaft Earthing & Monitoring

 

The main function of the shaft earthing assemblies is to ensure the cathodic protection of the hull and appendages is extended to include the propellers and external surfaces of the propeller shafts. Simultaneously, these assemblies ensure protection of the main engine and shaft bearings from electrolytic corrosion.

Specific features include:

  • Slipring manufactured from silver/copper alloy
  • High purity silver electrical contact brushes running on the slipring ensure a good conductive path
  • Self-lubricating with minimal maintenance requirements
  • The integrated shaft monitoring sub-system is electrically isolated
  • Shaft monitoring provides early warning of any potential problems
  • Remote audible and visual monitoring alarms are incorporated within the main ICCP control system
